Aviation Gateway Flying Programme

Air Hawke's Bay Ltd

This gateway program involves both theoretical and practical learning and experiences.

The Gateway course is offered by Air Hawke’s Bay Ltd in term two and is open to year 12 and 13 students who are considering a career in the aviation environment. Over the term students will be exposed to many aspects of the Aviation industry. This includes tours of maintenance facilities, air traffic control tower, helicopter operations, fire rescue, Air New Zealand ground operations, etc. Three introductory flying lessons and simulator sessions are included in this program. Students will gain NCEA credits through the completion of the Service IQ unit standards.

The variety of industry exposure will give students invaluable knowledge into the industry and will help with the decision to commit their future within the aviation sector.

Aviation STAR Programme

This STAR program involves practical learning and exams of 5 out of the 6 Private Pilot Licence Exams.

This STAR program involves practical learning and exams of 5 out of the 6 Private Pilot Licence Exams.

The STAR Lecture programme is suitable for senior high school students interested in pursuing a qualification in aviation, either for recreation or as a profession, in future. The qualifications gained from being part of the programme can be used toward the issue of a New Zealand Private Pilot’s Licence. The exams can also be cross credited to NCEA to attain Level 3 Credits.

Air Hawke’s Bay has offered the STAR Lecture programme for several years to students in Year 11 to 13 and will continue to do so.
