Aviation Gateway Flying Programme
Air Hawke's Bay Ltd
This gateway program involves both theoretical and practical learning and experiences.
The Gateway course is offered by Air Hawke’s Bay Ltd and is open to year 12 and 13 students who are considering a career in the aviation environment. Over the term students will be exposed to many aspects of the Aviation industry. This includes tours of maintenance facilities, air traffic control tower, helicopter operations, fire rescue, Air New Zealand ground operations, etc. Three introductory flying lessons and simulator sessions are included in this program. Students will gain NCEA credits through the completion of the Service IQ unit standards.
The variety of industry exposure will give students invaluable knowledge into the industry and will help with the decision to commit their future within the aviation sector.
Theoretical Summary:
- Theoretical resources provided by Service IQ consist of 6 NCEA unit standards, 5 of which total 19 credits at Level 2.
- Unit standards are self-paced, and assessment is an open book. Students can complete these units over a term if they are dedicated.
- Unit standards provide a good variety of knowledge across the aviation sector from pilots to baggage handlers to air traffic controllers.
